Hotel Information

Bernard Urbain and his team welcome you to the Chateau D' Isenbourg Hotel. Not far from Colmar, the Chateau d'Isenbourg, a chateau-hotel situated on the Alsace Wine route and overlooking the medieval city of Rouffach. The existence of the chateau in the Merovingian era is attested in several documents. Rouffach was part of the Austrasian crown lands and the chateau d'Isenbourg was one of the royal residences. In 1380, Bishop Frederic de Blankenheim enlarged and doubled the fortified walls of the city, with the object of giving better protection to the town of Rouffach. The chateau d'Isenbourg was made part of the town' system of defence. The oldest representation of the chateau shows Isenbourg and the town of Rouffach in 1548. The imposing mass of the chateau was dominated by the old keep, the most ancient part, which, according to tradition, was "as hard as iron".On 7th June 1791, Isenbourg was sold as a national asset. Around 1822, the old superstructure was demolished
